What is It Like to go to Rehab?
This is the big question we’re here to address. And, as you might have guessed, the answer is a little bit different depending on the person you ask or the unique characteristics of the rehab program itself. While we can’t speak for other treatment programs, we hope to shed some light on what drug rehab at The Raleigh House is really like.
Structure & Organization
Every day at our rehab center follows a set schedule, so you’ll always know what to expect. Many residents find that this helps to reduce stress and anxiety so they can focus on getting better instead of worrying about what’s in store for the day.
How to Embrace It: While you may be used to doing your own thing during the day, try to go with the flow. The set schedule isn’t meant to make your life miserable – in fact, it’s the opposite. At The Raleigh House, every component of our drug and alcohol treatment program was carefully planned by a team of experts who have had success with helping people recover from addiction. So don’t be afraid to give us a chance!
Individual & Group Therapy
All our residents are assigned a master’s-level clinician to serve as their primary therapist. You’ll meet with this person regularly to discuss your progress, your concerns and anything on your mind. Your therapist will be experienced in not only the assessment and treatment of addiction, but also co-occurring disorders like depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
You’ll also regularly participate in group therapy sessions with your peers. This is your chance to help others by sharing your personal experiences with addiction and to help yourself by forming bonds with people who understand what you’re going through.
How to Embrace It: We understand how difficult it may be for you to trust a person you just met. And, while sharing intimate details about your life is never easy, just remember that our therapists are here to help you. The more you put into your relationship with your therapist and the other people in your program, the more you’ll get out.
Recreational & Leisure Activities
At The Raleigh House, we expect our residents to work hard, but we also expect them to have a fun, positive experience while in our care. To that end, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in healthy physical activities like yoga, crossfit, boxing – even indoor rock climbing! Or, you can choose to participate in the many artistic and cultural events Denver has to offer. It’s all part of our goal to help residents achieve balance in their lives.
How to Embrace It: Taking part in physical activities and engaging in stimulating, intellectual pursuits not only enhances your recovery, it boosts your health and self-esteem! Get reconnected with a hobby you used to enjoy or pick up a brand new one.
Make the Most of Your Residential Addiction Rehab Program
Whether you decided to enroll in rehab on your own or at the urging of friends, family or loved ones, you might as well make the most of your time. Sure, you can choose to go through the motions, doing the bare minimum required of you, but you’ll only be cheating yourself. Instead, why not give your rehab program an honest try?
In the meantime, stay tuned for the conclusion of our series on what it’s like to go to rehab, which covers life after discharge.
